A classic drama based on the book of the same name by Giorgio Bassani. In the film we meet the intellectual Finzi-Contini family, Jewish aristocrats who live an idyllic life in beautiful surroundings. The two siblings Alberto and Micol Finzi-Contini live their lives and party through. All the while anti-Semitism is rampant and growing in Italy. As the fascist movement grows stronger, the mood in the family turns and suddenly the idyll has turned into a nightmare.
Et klassisk drama baseret på bogen af same navn af Giorgio Bassani. I filmen møder vi den intellektuelle Finzi-Contini family, jødiske aristokrater, der lever et idyllisk liv i smukke omgivelser. De to søskende Alberto and Micol Finzi-Contini lever livet og fester igennem. Alt imens antisemitismen hærger og gror i Italien. Da den fascistiske bevægelse bliver stærkere vender stemningen i familien og pludselig er idyllen forandret til et mareridt.
